The Robin-Subaru EX30D is a 287 cc, (17.5 cu·in) natural aspirated single-cylinder four-stroke air-cooled internal combustion small gasoline engine with a horizontal shaft, manufactured by the Industrial Products division of Subaru Corporation for general-purpose applications.
The Subaru EX21D engine has a single-cylinder, heavy-duty chain-driven overhead camshaft (OHC) system, a sophisticated mechanical compression release system, and a heavy-duty recoil starter or electric starter. This engine used a horizontal draft, float type carburetor, transistorized magneto ignition system, splash type lubricating system, and forced-air cooling system. The EX30D is not equipped with a fuel tank. The EX30D engine produced 9.0 PS (6.6 kW; 8.9 HP) at 4,000 rpm of maximum horsepower.

Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 75.0 mm (2.95 in) and 65.0 mm (2.56 in), respectively. The engine uses cast iron cylinder liner and large ball bearings on both ends of crankshaft for maximum stability under demanding loads. The piston is equipped with single oil and single compression rings.

The 4-stroke engine oil, API service classification SE oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 is recommended for the EX30D, refilling oil capacity is 1.0 L (1.06 US. qt, 0.88 Imp. qt.). Recommended spark plug is NGK BR-6HS with 0.6-0.7 mm (0.0236-0.0276 in) spark plug gap.
The valve clearance is 0.11-0.16 mm (0.0043-0.0063 in) for intake and exhaust valves. Standard cylinder compression is 5.0 kg/cm2 at 500 rpm.
