The Hatz 1B50 is a 0.5 L (517 cc, 31.55 cu·in) natural aspirated single-cylinder four-stroke air-cooled internal combustion small diesel engine with a horizontal shaft, manufactured by Motorenfabrik Hatz GmbH & Co. KG for general-purpose applications.
The Hatz 1B50 engine has a single-cylinder, direct injection combustion system, light-alloy cylinder head, forged crankshaft, valve timing via rocker arm, pushrods, finger-follower, and camshaft. The Hatz 1B50 engine can be equipped with a recoil or electric starter (12V or 24V) and alternator (14V – 14A at 3,000 rpm; 7A at 1,500 rpm or 28V – 7A at 3,000 rpm or 4A at 1,500 rpm). The engine used pressurized lubrication with a fine filter in the main flow. The 1B50 is equipped with a 5.0 L (1.32 US. gal. 1.1 Imp. gal.) fuel tank.
This diesel engine produced from 5.7 PS (4.2 kW; 5.6 HP) at 1,500 rpm to 11.6 PS (8.5 kW; 11.4 HP) at 3,600 rpm of horsepower (ISO 1585) and 27.4 N·m (2.8 kg·m, 20.2 ft·lb) at 2,500 rpm of peak torque.

The API – CF / CH-4, ACEA – B3 / E4 oil for engines without diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a viscosity of SAE 5W-30, 10W-30 is recommended for the 1B50, refilling oil capacity is 1.5 L (1.59 US. qt, 1.32 Imp. qt.). For engines with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) use ACEA E6. The valve clearance is 0.10 mm (0.004 in) for intake valves and 0.10 mm (0.004 in) for exhaust valves.
