Hatz 1B40V

The Hatz 1B40V is a 0.46 L (462 cc, 28.19 cu·in) natural aspirated single-cylinder four-stroke air-cooled internal combustion small diesel engine with a vertical shaft, manufactured by Motorenfabrik Hatz GmbH & Co. KG for general-purpose applications.

The Hatz 1B40V engine has a single-cylinder, direct injection combustion system, light-alloy cylinder head, forged crankshaft, valve timing via rocker arm, pushrods, finger-follower, and camshaft. The Hatz 1B40V engine used electric starter (12V or 24V) and alternator (14V – 14A at 3,000 rpm; 7A at 1,500 rpm or 28V – 7A at 3,000 rpm or 4A at 1,500 rpm). The engine used pressurized lubrication with a fine filter in the main flow. The 1B40V is equipped with a 5.0 L (1.32 US. gal. 1.1 Imp. gal.) fuel tank.

This diesel engine produced from 5.2 PS (3.8 kW; 5.1 HP) at 1,500 rpm to 10.2 PS (7.5 kW; 10.1 HP) at 3,600 rpm of horsepower (ISO 1585) and 24.9 N·m (2.5 kg·m, 18.4 ft·lb) at 2,300 rpm of peak torque.

Cylinder Block and Head

Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 88.0 mm (3.46 in) and 76.0 mm (2.99 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating is 20.5:1.

Service Data

The API – CF / CH-4, ACEA – B3 / E4 oil for engines without diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a viscosity of SAE 5W-30, 10W-30 is recommended for the 1B40V, refilling oil capacity is 1.5 L (1.59 US. qt, 1.32 Imp. qt.). For engines with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) use ACEA E6. The valve clearance is 0.10 mm (0.004 in) for intake valves and 0.10 mm (0.004 in) for exhaust valves.
