The Opel X14XE is a 1.4 L (1,389 cc, 84.76 cu·in) straight-four natural aspirated four-stroke liquid-cooled internal combustion vertical gasoline engine, manufactured by Opel, a subsidiary of General Motors since 1994 to 2000.
The Opel X14XE engine has a cast-iron cylinder block and aluminum cross-flow cylinder head, belt-driven dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), and 16 valves (4 per cylinder). This engine used a Sequential multi-port fuel injection system and electronic ignition system. The X14XE used sodium-filled exhaust valves, a cast steel crankshaft, and a spheroidal graphite flywheel. It also has an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR), secondary air injection, and Multec M engine control.
The X14XE engine produced 90 PS (66 kW; 88 HP) at 6,000 rpm of maximum horsepower and 125 N·m (12.7 kg·m, 92.1 ft·lb) at 4,000 rpm of maximum torque.
The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:
- X – Euro 2 engine
- 14 – 1.4 Liter displacement
- X – Comression ratio from 10 to 11.5:1
- E – Multi Point Fuel Injection system
